Position Summary

The Operations Technician (I&E) will perform maintenance, equipment installations, testing and calibrations. This position also includes level and valve controllers, PLCs, DCS, ESD systems, transformers, switches and switch gear up to 115kv, electrical equipment, igniters, guided radar, chromatographs, etc.

Key Accountabilities

  • Follow all appropriate and required standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Must be able to work under limited to no supervision.
  • Work with Engineering design and install new electrical and instrumentation equipment to upgrade, replace, and improve existing systems.
  • Able to utilize technical skills to troubleshoot production instrumentation, electronics and electrical components.
  • Provide instrumentation support for all process equipment (pneumatic, hydraulic, electro-mechanical, electronic)
  • Able to do electrical equipment installations, calibrations, inspections, and troubleshooting tasks to minimize production impacts and enhance the reliability of the operation.
  • Install wiring and conduit as needed
  • Assist in maintaining instrumentation, calibrations, and testing
  • Participate in PSSR’s as applicable.
  • Participate in Process Hazard Reviews as applicable
  • Participation in incident investigation and corrective action development as a part of a continuous program improvement.
  • Support other operations personnel and be included in a rotating call schedule.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • Qualified to work in the US.
  •  Valid driver’s license
  • Successful completion of RIVIERA physical examination including drug and alcohol testing.


  • 1 to 3 years of onshore oil and gas I&E maintenance, testing, and programming experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Learns and applies basic knowledge and skills gained through experience and training as follows:

  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance, testing and programming (Electrical wiring and equipment, Process and Equipment Controls, DCS, PLCs and PLC programming, controllers, transmitters)
  • Knowledge of industry related codes and compliance (i.e. NEC, API RP 14C, API RP 500)
  • Knowledge of safety practices and environmental regulations.
  • Knowledge of P&ID’s
  • Computer software skills.
  • Able to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for assembling instrumentation and controls, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.

Work Environment

This role works primarily in a non-office environment. In this capacity, incumbents are regularly:

  • exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain or snow
  • required to drive to and access job sites, in light of day as well as in darkness, to perform work assignments. Some job site locations may be remote from the office requiring overnight stays and/or isolated from interaction with others and towns
  • required to balance, bend, squat, crouch, climb, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, push/pull and lift objects and use apparatus to push/pull  and lift heavy objects weighing 50 lbs or more
  • subject to exposure to hazards such as but not limited to slippery or uneven surfaces; environmental/industry hazards such as chemicals, high-decibel noise from production equipment, fumes or poor ventilation; proximity to moving objects and vehicles; potentially combustible components; hazardous off- road conditions such as dust, ice and snow
  • may be requested to work long hours to complete job assignments
  • may work a rotating schedule, be on shift, and/or be on call
  • follow all company safety policies and protocols
  • required to perform active, physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment and/or machinery and making adjustments and repairs
  • required to have visual acuity to work with parts, equipment, apparatus, etc.
  • required to possess audible acuity to hear alarms in the event of emergency
