Position Summary

The Operator is directly responsible for monitoring and optimizing gas plant processing systems at the Jayhawk Gas Plant and will be required to work shift work.  The position will require close interaction with natural gas suppliers and product customers.  The Operator supports an empowered work-team focused on safety, profitability and cost leadership. The position is responsible for ensuring regulatory and corporate compliance.  Job duties will include monitoring equipment and equipment parameters, starting/stopping equipment, data collection, troubleshooting, training others, procedure development, sample gathering, housekeeping duties, assisting on minor maintenance and other assigned duties.

Key Accountabilities

  • Responding to alarms
  • Starting up, shutting down and monitoring plant equipment 
  • Working as either a control board or outside operator
  • Issuing work permits 
  • Troubleshooting problems
  • Adhering to safe work practices
  • Ensure safe, efficient and sustainable operation of the asset

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 year technical degree or Associate's degree preferred
  • Certifications as required by trade
  • Valid drivers license
  • Successful completion of RIVIERA physical examination including drug and alcohol testing.


Operator must be able to make quick and accurate operating decisions based on written operating procedures.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Meet established EHS expectations
  • Assist in the development, tracking and delivery of plant operational efficiency targets
  • Ensure operational and safety training objectives are achieved
  • Perform administrative functions relating to operations
  • Assure operational input to asset risk identification and management programs
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant/required management programs including PSM, EHS, Mechanical Integrity, etc.
  • Day to day liaison with internal and external customers
  • Ensure individual training completed in accordance with site training matrix
  • Ensure hazards are systematically identified and risks assessed and managed
  • Ensure facilities and processes are operated within safe limits
  • Develop and maintain SOPs for improving the safety and integrity of the operation
  • Adhere to Management of Change process
  • Ensure protective systems and devices are in place to prevent, detect, control or mitigate incidents
  • Prepared to carry out emergency response actions
  • Investigate incident cause
  • Clear about job roles and competent to carry them out

Work Environment

This role works primarily in a non-office environment. In this capacity, incumbents are regularly:

  • exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain or snow
  • required to drive to and access job sites, in light of day as well as in darkness, to perform work assignments. Some job site locations may be remote from the office requiring overnight stays and/or isolated from interaction with others and towns
  • required to balance, bend, squat, crouch, climb, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, push/pull and lift objects and use apparatus to push/pull  and lift heavy objects weighing 50 lbs or more
  • subject to exposure to hazards such as but not limited to slippery or uneven surfaces; environmental/industry hazards such as chemicals, high-decibel noise from production equipment, fumes or poor ventilation; proximity to moving objects and vehicles; potentially combustible components; hazardous off- road conditions such as dust, ice and snow
  • may be requested to work long hours to complete job assignments
  • may work a rotating schedule, be on shift, and/or be on call
  • follow all company safety policies and protocols
  • required to perform active, physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment and/or machinery and making adjustments and repairs
  • required to have visual acuity to work with parts, equipment, apparatus, etc.
  • required to possess audible acuity to hear alarms in the event of emergency
