Position Summary

Considered an entry level role. Under direct supervision, performs routine tasks in support of operations activities. Operations Technicians specialize in various trades/crafts and are responsible for ensuring functionality and efficient operating conditions for various equipment within their area of specialization. Position involves close interation with RIVIERA Operations field/plant personnel and with external vendors and subcontractors.

Incumbents work under direct supervision in an entry level capacity, working in conjunction with other techncians and/or supervisor.

Key Accountabilities

  • In conjunction with an experienced technician or supervisor, learns and follows standard operating procedures in performing duties in area of specialization to ensure proper and efficient functionality and operating conditions. Typical procedures generally comprise  of hands-on technical application involving activities that may include monitoring, maintaining, servicing and/or repairing production and/or plant equipment/processes.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting.
  • Learns to understand and apply Operation's objective to minimize costs while maintaining equipment quality and integrity.
  • Tracks and ensures compliance with all company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists field, plant, and/or  gathering  personnel on operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Learns requirements to be able to maintain accurate and current records and adhere to timely schedules.   
  • In conjunction with an experienced technician or supervisor, monitors and confirms all safety requirements are met to ensure safe, efficient and sustainable operation of processes, equipment, facilities, and/or assets. Identifies safety hazards and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Meets established EHS expectations. Adheres to safe work practices
  • Ensures protective systems and devices are in place to prevent, detect, control or mitigate incidents.
  • Ensures operational and safety training objectives are achieved.
  • Ensures individual training is completed in accordance with operations policy.
  • Maintains standard operating procedures for improving the safety and integrity of the operation.
  • Performs administrative functions relating to operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 2 year technical degree or Associate's degree preferred
  • Certifications as required by trade
  • Valid drivers license
  • Successful completion of RIVIERA physical examination including drug and alcohol testing.


  • Scope and complexity of role and expectations are entry level as incumbents learn the job duties and requirements. Prefer some work experience in a field setting

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Learns and applies basic knowledge and skills gained through experience and training as follows:

  • Basic computer knowledge (such as Microsoft applications) and understanding.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills required. Represents the company in dealing with subcontractors; participates in training events; coordinates activities with RIVIERA operators, technicians, etc.  Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Willingness to accept responsibility and accountability with a positive attitude and support for company’s culture and goals.
  • Knowledge and awareness of EHS requirements, practices and  issues and response procedures.
  • Demonstrates trade-specific safety practices
  • Applies basic trades-specific technical knowledge and skills gained through experience and/or course work.
  • Punctual and reliable job attendance.
  • Operate motor vehicle safely and legally as well as drive to remote locations to complete job tasks.
  • Ability to perform daily tasks including but not limited to ensuring safe and functioning equipment/processes related to area of specialization.
  • Ability to follow all safety procedures while working independently.
  • Able to travel and work extended hours on short notice.

Work Environment

This role works primarily in a non-office environment. In this capacity, incumbents are regularly:

  • exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain or snow
  • required to drive to and access job sites, in light of day as well as in darkness, to perform work assignments. Some job site locations may be remote from the office requiring overnight stays and/or isolated from interaction with others and towns
  • required to balance, bend, squat, crouch, climb, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, push/pull and lift objects and use apparatus to push/pull  and lift heavy objects weighing 50 lbs or more
  • subject to exposure to hazards such as but not limited to slippery or uneven surfaces; environmental/industry hazards such as chemicals, high-decibel noise from production equipment, fumes or poor ventilation; proximity to moving objects and vehicles; potentially combustible components; hazardous off- road conditions such as dust, ice and snow
  • may be requested to work long hours to complete job assignments
  • may work a rotating schedule, be on shift, and/or be on call
  • follow all company safety policies and protocols
  • required to perform active, physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment and/or machinery and making adjustments and repairs
  • required to have visual acuity to work with parts, equipment, apparatus, etc.
  • required to possess audible acuity to hear alarms in the event of emergency
