Position Summary

The Plant Foreman is responsible for day-to-day direction and technical oversight of the operating team and plant operational activities.  Responsible for the reliability and functional competence of plant operations including production quotas and general support of plant performance objectives. Provides site leadership of operations staff and is an active emember of the plan emergency response team. Hires, trains, develops, and supervises direct reports and contractors on processes, procedures, and daily activities.

Key Accountabilities

  •  Ensures safe, efficient and sustainable operation of the asset including process troubleshooting involving trend analyses, upset analyses, Distributed Control System (DCS) optimization programming, Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC); overseeing and coordinating operational requirements associated with maintenance, engineering and EH&S projects; and assuring operational input to asset risk identification and management programs.
  • Directly supervises plant operations employees. Sets and enforces expectations and creates work schedules for direct reports and contractors.

  • Postion involves day-to-day liaison with internal and external customers. Effectively communicates and interacts with employees, contractors, guests, and regulatory agencies.
  • Monitors plant activity to ensure company personnel and vendors are providing quality service and adhering to safety and environmental policies.
  • Monitors, controls, and optimizes plant operations. Assists in the development, tracking and delivery of plant operational efficiency targets and budget. Coordinates Process Safety Management (PSM) / Risk Management Plant, non-environmental regulatory requirements associated w/ maintenance, operations, engineering, and EHS
  • Seeks innovative and creative means of stabilizing and/or increasing plant operations results.
  • Coordinates the selection of vendors and materials for specific projects in conjunction with engineering and SCM.
  • Complies and ensures compliance of direct reports and contractors with all corporate policies, laws, regulations and management decisions. Ensures operational compliance with all relevant/required management programs including PSM, EHS, Mechanical Integrity, etc.
  • Ensures competency of operations staff. Develops direct reports through coaching, counseling, disciplining and the performance evaluation process in order for employees to reach the next level in their career progression.
  • Responsible for safe operations. Ensures hazards are systematically identified and risks assessed and managed. Ensures facilities and processes are operated within safe limits. Develops and maintains SOPs for improving the safety and integrity of the operation. Ensure protective systems and devices are in place to prevent, detect, control or mitigate incidents. Is prepared to carry out emergency response actions. Investigates incident cause(s).
  • Champions company values, and sets tone of operating excellence. Adheres to Management of Change process.
  • Ensures successful training across the operations organization to apply appropriate standards (CBT, safety meetings,etc.). Ensures individual training is completed in accordance with site training matrix.
  • Responsible for budgetary line control of the supervised operation. Has fiscal accountability for plant operating expenses involving budgeting, monitoring and tracking activities. Assists in delivering the operations component of the asset business plan
  • Serves as a member of plant leadership team and assumes on-call responsibilities as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Certificates, Licenses

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Trade/Technical school diploma desired
  • Must be a certified operator or be able to obtain certification within one(1) year


  • Level of complexity and scope generally involves 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry including 8+ years in gas processing facilities
  • Cryogen plant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be able to work effectively with maintenance / Engineering / EH&S / PSM groups to complete required task without impacting overall EH&S / business goals of the facility.
  • Punctual and reliable job attendance.
  • Clear, concise verbal and writing skills.
  • Must have adequate understanding of site economic drivers
  • Basic computer skills, with the ability to quickly learn applications specific software and function in Microsoft Office environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of oil and gas safety practices and procedures
  • Must be able to understand and ensure compliance with regulatory / management system requirements as they apply to maintenance activities.
  • Ability to lead small to medium sized team with multiple tasks / skill sets
  • Must have strong planning and organizational skills
  • Must be proficient in all operational areas and conditions within the plant to ensure facility efficiency, availability, and regulatory compliance.

Work Environment

This role works occasionally works in a non-office environment when visiting job sites. In this siutation, incumbents:

  • may be exposed to outdoor elements such as extreme heat or cold, heavy winds, rain or snow
  • may be required to drive to and access job sites, in light of day as well as in darkness, to perform work assignments. Some job site locations may be remote from the office requiring overnight stays and/or isolated from interaction with others and towns
  • may be required to balance, bend, squat, crouch, climb, reach, grasp, stoop, kneel, push/pull and lift objects and use apparatus to push/pull  and lift heavy objects weighing 50 lbs or more
  • may be subject to exposure to hazards such as but not limited to slippery or uneven surfaces; environmental/industry hazards such as chemicals, high-decibel noise from production equipment, fumes or poor ventilation; proximity to moving objects and vehicles; potentially combustible components; hazardous off- road conditions such as dust, ice and snow
  • are required to follow all company safety policies and protocols
  • may be required to assist crew members in performing active, physical tasks including but not limited to operating equipment and/or machinery and making adjustments and repairs
  • may be required to have visual acuity to work with parts, equipment, apparatus, etc.
  • are required to possess audible acuity to hear alarms in the event of emergency
